AT&T has revealed that it will be throttling data speeds of top 5 per cent of its customer base to 2G speeds.
Various reports are saying that AT&T has started informing their customers about this new controversial move through an impersonal text message which reads as "Your data usage is among the top 5 percent of users. Data speeds for the rest of your current bill cycle may be reduced." reported CultofMac.
It is still not clear as to how much data the user must consume to reach the mark of alleged top 5 per cent. AT&T has commented that a user would need to gobble up around 12 times more data compared to an average user.
This new policy by AT&T might not be applicable to the average iPhone users as they consume almost 800MB data every month according to J.P. Morgan report, reports c|net.
The new move by AT&T is bad news for the jailbreakers having unlimited plans by using tethered Cydia hacks for bypassing subscription of AT&T official tethering plan. The only few options left for them are subscribe to AT&T tethering plan or simply switch to Sprint.
