Angry Birds is Top iPad, iPhone App of 2011, Apple Reveals

'Rewind' is a compilation of charts Apple relesases annually at about this time, letting everyone know its best performers of the year in various categories, including: music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and apps.

Rovio's insanely popular app, Angry Birds, has wiped the floor with the opposition in the apps category, for both iPad and iPhone.

Angry Birds was at the top of three of four lists, including top Free and Paid iPad app, and top Paid iPhone app. This represents an improvement on last year, when Rovio's game was just ranked as number one paid iPhone app.

Though released a little late to be in the running for the iPad competition in 2010, the Angry Birds took their revenge this year and managed to dominate the platform.

Other Paid apps for iPad that did well are: Pages in second place, GarageBand and Penultimate.

Following Angry Birds in second and third positions for Free iPad apps are The Weather Channel and Netflix.

Apps near the top in the Paid iPhone apps category include: Fruit Ninja in second place, Cut the rope and Tiny wings.

Rovio's only blemish came in the top Free iPhone apps category, where Angry Birds was pushed down to 4th spot by Facebook, Pandora Radio and Words with Friends, which took the top 3 places respectively.
