The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime has been put on preorder in the UK via online retailer Clove; with two versions, the 32GB model with keyboard docking station and a 64GB one, both available for £550.80.
The original Eee Pad Transformer can be had for well under £350; one has to wonder whether the 64GB model is worth an additional £200 or so, especially given that the price of a 32GB microSD card is falling ever lower.
The new Transformer Prime comes with a quad-core chipset, the Nvidia Tegra 3, clocked at 1.4GHz, there's also 1GB RAM and unlike the original Eee Pad, which had just 16GB, this one comes with 32GB or 64GB.
Other features include a 10.1-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with a 1280x800 pixel display, an eight megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, Wi-Fi and a front-facing camera. Asus has used its expertise to slim down the Transformer Prime to roughly the weight and thickness of the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
As for the battery life, the Prime can reach 12 hours on its own and a staggering 18 hours when paired with its keyboard dock. It also adds an SD card reader, a proper keyboard plus two USB ports.
