This past Sunday, Samsung announced that sales of its various handsets topped 300 million units in the current year. Interestingly, this is the first time in the history of the company that this has happened.
Samsung is the second-largest maker of smartphones worldwide. In the first 11 months of 2011 the company has sold 300 million units of their various devices.
A company statement confirmed that since the company first started selling mobile phones back in 1988, this is the first year that annual sales exceeded 300 million units, reports Xinhua Net.
President and head of Samsung's mobile communications business, Shin Jong-kyun, stated "We are incredibly proud of this record-breaking sales milestone and have exceeded the annual target announced early this year, which is testament to the enduring appeal of Samsung phones with consumers around the world."
Credit for the rise in the sales goes to its flagship Galaxy S series which is one of the most successful series ever manufactured by this South Korean tech giant.
Jong-kyun also added, "We look forward to extending this success going into 2012."
