Apple has announced that its Mac App Store has surpassed the 100 million downloads milestone in less than a year after being launched.
The Mac App Store was launched in January of this year and was quick to reach the 1 million downloads mark. The platform's success has been largely credited to the fact that it brings the App Store experience to the Mac, giving users the ability to download and install apps in one click.
"In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
"With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world."
Apple also touted the success of its App Store in a press release, informing that the platform, which offers more than 500,000 apps, has seen 18 billion app downloads since its launch. Apple also stated that the platform was hitting more than 1 billion app downloads every month.
