iPhone 3GS Rival Alert : Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro From £130

O2 is currently offering a deal on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, with the handset available for £130, a price that excludes a minimum topup of £7.50 but includes a £20 gift voucher that can be used at a number of high street stores.

Launched earlier this year at MWC, the Xperia Mini Pro is the followup to the Xperia X10 Mini Pro, and comes with a proper slide out physical QWERTY keyboard and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Like its bigger brothers, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset clocked at 1GHz, comes with 512MB RAM, and a microSD card slot to compensate for the limited onboard storage.

There's also a 3-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display (a scratch-resistant multi-touch Reality Display coupled with Mobile BRAVIA Engine), a five megapixel camera with AF and HD video recording capabilities.

While it is certainly not the best value handset at this price - we'd still prefer to have the bigger screen of an Orange San Francisco II or the versatility of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play - it's not far off, and many may prefer to have a smaller handset with a proper dedicated keyboard.

Desire worked at ITProPortal right at the beginning and was instrumental in turning it into the leading publication we all know and love today. He then moved on to be the Editor of TechRadarPro - a position he still holds - and has recently been reunited with ITProPortal since Future Publishing's acquisition of Net Communities.
