OnLive gaming app now available for Android PlayStation Sony Ericsson Xperia Play mobile phone

Popular cloud based gaming platform OnLive has announced that its application for the Android operating system has now been updated, to include support for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone and its slide-out gaming controls.

The free OnLive app was released on December 8th for the Android Market, where it is the first cloud gaming app to offer playing high-performance, console quality games that was previously only available for high-end computers and gaming consoles.

OnLive games aren't downloaded, instead they are just streamed over the internet in the same way as music or videos are streamed.

The games are platform independent, where you can start playing on a PC or Mac and then pick up the game elsewhere on a smartphone - with all the gaming data being completely intact.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play offers the dedicated slide-out gaming keys, analog touch joysticks and shoulder buttons, where console-class games are playable from being directly streamed for instant on-demand play.

Xperia users can have access to free demos of 24 touch-playable games, such as Dirt 3 and Defense Grid Gold, which have been either redesigned with native touch controls or include various virtual gamepads on-screen - with packages starting at £6.99 a month, from then onwards.
