Amazon has sent an email announcing its Boxing Day plans, and has confirmed that it will be selling the Lenovo Ideapad A1 for under £150, possibly at £149.99, a £50 discount off its suggested retail price of £200.
Like the RIM Blackberry PlayBook Tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, it comes with a 7-inch 1024x600 pixel capacitive touchscreen and has both a five megapixel rear camera and a two megapixel front-facing one.
However, the Lenovo Ideapad A1 lacks the processing power as it comes with a single core TI OMAP3622, a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, rather than 1GB, and a PowerVR SGX530 graphics module.
But the model on sale at Amazon is the 16GB rather than the 8GB model, plus there's a microSD card reader, a battery (mono cell, 3550mAh) that can power the device for up to five hours, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a microUSB port.
Most notably though, it is possibly the first tablet under £200 to come with a magnesium alloy roll-cage internal frame, which makes it both sturdy while also being sleek (less than 12mm thick and 400g in weight).
Lenovo has also thrown in "more than 10 apps" including eBuddy messenger and Documents to go. Note that the tablet runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather than Honeycomb.
