LG Electronics has announced the development of the world's biggest OLED TV Panel.
Measuring 55 inches, the new panel should be termed 'revolutionary' in the screen technology market.
OLED, which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes, is next generation technology that has a wide range of advantages over older, more traditional screen technology. It is much lighter, thinner and environmentally friendly.
Ever since OLED was first invented, it has been projected by many industry experts as the future of television.
"Our objective has always been to actively define and lead emerging display technology markets," said Dr. Sang Beom Han, chief executive officer and Executive Vice President of LG Display, according to a TechRadar report.
"Although OLED technology is seen as the future of TV display, the technology has been limited to smaller display sizes and by high costs, until now. LG display's 55-inch OLED TV panel has overcome these barriers," Beom Han added.
How this new technology will change the television industry remains to be seen. Other industries that may benefit from the technology include mobile markets.
