Microsoft Removes 'Gun-Like' Items from XBox Live Marketplace Starting Jan 2012

Microsoft has decided to remove gun-like items from the Xbox Live Marketplace to prevent gamers from using Avatars that carry guns.

According to an article on The Verge, users will be able to use items in their Avatars which they have bought in the past, but from 1st January, no new items will be available.

The revelation was made by Epic Games community manager Ruczilla on community forums.

"Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you've purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them," he informed.

"A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they're hot," Ruczilla said.

Microsoft has managed to anger a lot of hardcore gamers who believe the company has deserted them after the launch of Kinect, which is primarily targeted towards casual gamers and families.

The company has yet to make the announcement official and to explain which items qualify as 'gun-like.' Whether this new policy will affect Microsoft's popularity amongst hard-core gamers remains to be seen as well.
