Boxee has released a new version for its desktop video streaming software which brings new interface changes and additional features to the platform.
The Boxee version 1.5 for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems comes with changes to the Home Screen, which now carries links to the Browser and Live TV, for which users would require a dongle. The featured section on the Home Screen also comes with UI changes.
The company also made changes to the Menu section, which now pops up as an overlay, allowing users to easily navigate through the app. The search section also comes with new changes that allow users to conduct search with less clicks.
The update will be the last one for its PC, Mac and Ubuntu client. Boxee said that it believed that in the future, users won't be streaming videos on their desktops but on their TVs via connected set-top boxes and Blu-Ray players.
"While there are still many users who have computers connected to their TVs, we believe this use case is likely to decline as users find better alternatives," Boxee said notes All Things D.
"People will continue to watch a lot of video on their computer, but it is more likely to be a laptop than a home-theatre PC and probably through a browser rather than downloaded software," it added.
