Apple's China based partner Foxconn is planning to expand its Zhengzhou plant - the iPhone manufacturing unit of the company.

As a part of this move, the company is going to recruit over 100,000 workers in the coming months with the help of Zhengzhou city.

Also, when the new construction of the Zhengzhou unit, estimated at $1.1 billion, is completed, it will be the world's largest smartphone manufacturing unit ever.

During an inerview, Xue Yunwei - the deputy mayor in Zhengzhou stated that his city has indeed one of the largest workforces in China. And more importantly, the labour costs there are usually no more than two-thirds of the standard cost of the country's coastal cities.

"You can't find entry-level workers in Shanghai offering only 1,500 yuan ($237) of monthly salary. But we can," Xue stated, according to a Business Week report.

"In the past 30 years, China created what might be the world's greatest miracle by attracting global capital to its coastal cities. The new story for the next few decades will be the inland story," he added.
