The Xbox live marketplace now has a demo in its catalogue for Gears of War 3, offering up the introductory Shipwreck mission that sets the stage for the rest of the game.
Anyone with an Xbox live gold account can download it for free, giving them a taste of the action that they missed by not picking up the hit sequel title already. Released in September 2011, Gears of War 3 sold an impressive 3 million units in its first week on sale - more than both previous Gears titles.
The demo clocks in at 1.15GB, and includes just the one mission, though it's the starting point for the rest of the game so it's an understandable choice by Epic Games. If you want to queue up the download, head over here.
Gears of War 3 sees Markus Fenix and his hardy band of 'Gears' as they fight off threats from the traditional Locust forces as well as the glowing, infused Lambent which bring their own new threats to the mix in this latest title.
While it's thought that the Gears of War franchise will continue through four, five and six, Epic won't be making them. It's been rumoured that they will be prequel games and will be developed by Bulletstorm developer People can Fly. There's no word on when production of these games will begin though.
