Rupert Murdoch Heads to Twitter

Media baron Rupert Murdoch has shocked and surprised the world by opening an account on micro-blogging platform Twitter.

Rupert Murdoch is the owner of News Corp. which, apart from owning many popular influential news publications around the world, owned News of the World, which closed down after being hit by the phone hacking scandal.

What's surprising about Murdoch's move is that Twitter users around the world and in the UK had taken to the micro-blogging platform to start a campaign against News of the World and News Corp. after the phone hacking scandal came into light.

According to Daily Mail, 80 year old Murdoch, who is operating from the handle @rupertmurdoch, has been tweeting about politics, movies and what he has been up to on his holidays.

Murdoch, who has more than 40,000 followers, himself admitted that his move is somewhat controversial.

"I'm getting killed for fooling around here and friends frightened what I may really say!" he tweeted. Murdoch's 43 year old wife, Wendi Deng, who is also on Twitter, has been showing him how to use the website.

In one of his tweets Murdoch has revealed his new year's resolution: "try to maintain humility and always curiosity. And of course diet!"
