Wendi Deng's Account on Twitter is Fake

Wendi Deng, wife of Rupert Murdoch, grabbed some eyeballs when she joined Twitter along with her husband and reportedly engaged in some flirting with people like Ricky Gervais. The Twitter account was officially verified with "tick" badge from the micro blogging, social networking website.

However, on Tuesday, a spokesman from News International confirmed in London that the account of Wendi Deng is fake and the Rupert Murdoch account is, on the other hand is genuine, reported The Guardian.

The fake account of Wendi Deng was created a day after the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, Murdoch, created his account of Twitter on 31st of December.

Apparently, the fake account holder chatted with many celebrities like Gervais and Kim Kardashian by twitting "i think you look HOT ricky!!! (sssh dont tell @rupertmurdoch!)" to Gervais and "kim!!! agreed! rupert and i set a lot of goals for ourselves all through last yr!" to Kardashian.

On Tuesday, with the official announcement by Twitter it became clear that somebody played a very bad prank.

On the official statement the website said, "We don't comment on our verification process but can confirm that the @wendi_deng account was mistakenly verified for a short period of time. We apologise for the confusion this caused."

The Guardian tried to reach out to the person who had opened the account and they did receive a response. "I set up the account as a laugh, simple as that, when I was bored over the new year holiday and saw all the hype surrounding Rupert Murdoch joining Twitter," said the account holder.

"When I got to hear that NI had called it legit too, by that stage I'd entered 'what the hell' territory and thought I'd just carry on and see where it went, seeing as Twitter had already verified it", the account holder added.
