A Windows 7 based pack of applications for the iPad has been announced by OnLive, primarily known for its cloud game-streaming service, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
"OnLive Desktop is the first app to deliver a no-compromise, media-rich Windows desktop experience to iPad, opening up powerful new possibilities for consumers and businesses," OnLive Founder and CEO Steve Perlman said.
In just two days, on Thursday January 12th, OnLive Desktop will be available on the App Store. In order to gain access to the app, users will have to get a free OnLive account that comes with 2 GB of storage.
OnLive Desktop brings to the iPad Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and a set of utilities. But OnLive Desktop is not all work and no fun, as the app also delivers some touch based games as well.
The app offers support for multi touch gestures and even handwriting recognition. "iPad users will now be able to simply and securely view and edit cloud-hosted documents with full-featured Windows desktop applications like Microsoft Office, just as if they were using a local high-performance PC", Perlman explained.
Later on, the company is planning to release a Pro version with additional PC apps and 50 GB of storage. Furthermore, OnLive Desktop will "soon" be available for Android, Smartphones, PCs, Mac and even on TVs, the company says.
