The Asus PadFone smartphone might be able to attach to a keyboard dock like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet.
While playing around with the Asus PadFone, Recombu discovered that the dock connections at the base of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone are similar to the ones found on the Transformer Prime tablet that might allow it to attach to a keyboard dock.
The Transformer Prime tablet comes with a keyboard dock which turns the tablet device into a laptop computer. Asus has yet to confirm this, but is expected to unveil the device in more detail at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.
The interesting thing about the ICS based PadFone is that it comes with a 10.1 inch tablet dock. The smartphone is able to be attached at the backside of the dock to turn it into an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet device.
The tablet dock has no software of its own and uses the smartphone to ‘transform' into a full fledged tablet device.
Motorola was the first to launch the Atrix smartphone which came with a laptop dock. The device failed to grab the attention of consumers. Perhaps, Asus will have better luck.
