Satellite based navigation services provider TomTom has launched a new iOS app at CES 2012 that integrates with social networking platforms Facebook and Twitter.
The newly launched TomTom app for the iPad and iPhone, version 1.10, gives turn-by-turn navigation to users by using the data it gleans from the social networking websites. The company said that the new app, the first navigation app to do so, will let users to navigate their way to friends, events and places based on Facebook and Twitter data.
The app will be able to provide users with routes based on friends, places and events data on Facebook, making it more easier to reach their intended destination. The company also said that the app was capable of allowing users to share their destination and their estimated time of arrival to a destination using Facebook, Twitter and email or text message.
"According to recent studies, the vast majority of iPhone users use Facebook on their iPhone" said Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director Consumer at TomTom.
"By integrating Facebook features into our TomTom App we make navigating to places, events and seeing friends even easier," he explained.
In related news, TomTom announced a deal with Samsung to provide maps and navigation services to Bada OS based Wave 3 smartphone.
