Tizen is a project to develop an open source operating system for various devices such as tablet computers and smartphones. Currently, the Tizen project is offering an opportunity to download the alpha release of this operating system's source code.

Tizen will be a Linux based open source platform backed by Intel, Samsung and many other industry giants. Once complete, it will offer HTML5 application framework as well as customisable user experience.

This new operating system will work in multiple devices like smartphones, smart TVs, tablet computers, netbooks and in-vehicle infotainment systems. Alpha release of the source code specifically targets tablet computers, smartphones and it works on the PC emulator.t

The Tizen project, on their official website stated, "We will have full source code for smartphones, tablets and additional device targets with a reference user experience available in the coming weeks and months," reported Tizen Source.

Those working on the project also made it clear that this release is an early preview and is not yet ready to be used for creating production applications. The Linux Foundation is host of project; it is controlled by a technical steering group that includes those from Intel, Samsung and few other companies.
