Mountain View based technology outfit Google Inc. has been named the best company to work for by Fortune.
Before finally making its way all the way to the top this year, the company had been virtually stuck at the fourth position for the last three years in the magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list.
Google was followed by the Boston Consulting Group at the second spot. Boston Consulting Groups happens to be a leading global consulting firm with its wings spread over 42 countries. The company, according to Fortune, invest thousands of dollars, in addition to more than 100 hours for recruiting each consultant. But once they are recruited, every consultant earns on average $139,000 a year.
Software vendor SAS, who managed to bag the top spot last year, was pushed back to the third spot this year.
"My job as a leader is to make sure everybody in the company has great opportunities, and that they feel they're having a meaningful impact and are contributing to the good of society," Google CEO Larry Page said in an exclusive statement to Fortune, New York Daily News reports.
Google's arch rival Microsoft also managed to secure its place in the list (at 76).
