iPhone 5, a Powerful Advertisement Tool for Scammers

With all the frenzy that fires up the tech lovers when it comes to the latest Apple devices, some not so creative scammers came up with the idea to ride the iPhone 5 interest to promote their nefarious schemes.

Apparently, a post published on a Tumblr Staff blog encourages users to claim a free iPhone 5 by re-blogging that post, to promote the "opportunity".

"We are happy to announce that Tumblr and Apple have joined together in a promotion to giveaway FREE iPhone 5's to each one of our users!" announces the fake post, leaving no room for the perplexed reader to assume that he or she might have misunderstood the text.

The post is without a doubt a fake and it is not signed by Tumblr staff. If someone falls into the trap, the user is redirected to a scam page that collects some of the available rumours about the next generation iPhone here that promises "Increased Display with 3D graphics, 4G Capabilities, Increased Battery Life, 8-MP Camera, FaceTime over Cellular Network."

The scammer's purpose is to obtain emails and other personal information, probably for future spamming.
