Qualcomm Krait MDP Beats Out iPhone 4S, Galaxy Nexus In Benchmarks

A new series of benchmarks for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 mobile development platform, based on the new Krait architecture, has been published by Anandtech.

The latest MDP is based on the MSM8960 chipset and has been launched weeks before MWC 2012; MDP (check our pictures of the previous version at CES 2011) forms the template of Qualcomm based smartphones that will be launched in the following few months.

Krait, supersedes Scorpion and is based on a 28nm manufacturing process. The MDP comes with a dual core model clocked at 1.5GHz, with 1GB RAM, an Adreno 225 GPU (a slight improvement on the Adreno 220 that powered the previous MDP), 16GB onboard storage, a memory slot, a 13-megapixel camera, plus a 4-inch 1024x600 pixel touchscreen as well as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

On pure CPU-based benchmarks (Linpack single and multi-threaded, Sunspider Javascript Benchmarks, Browsermark, Vellamo), the MSM8960 outclasses the competition, sometimes by a very significant margin.

The Adreno 225, however, is the chipset's Achilles heel and is bettered by the PowerVR SGX 543MP2 found in the Apple A5 SoC. You can read the rest of the review on
