Pictures of a new Sony Xperia smartphone, the Xperia U or Kumquat or the ST25i, have surfaced online courtesy of a Brazilian website, Xakatamovil which obtained these pictures from an unknown Chinese source.
The handset, which is expected to be launched on Sunday in an exclusive Sony event prior to the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, appears to be a smaller version of the Xperia S.
It will reportedly come with a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive display, a 1GHz processor (possibly single core) and as for the Xperia S, will come with a squarer design plus a row of capacitive buttons near the phone's bottom.
Like HTC with the Desire, the Sensation and the soon-to-be-launched One, Sony works with families of products.
Last year saw the Xperia Play, the arc, the Mini and the Neo while the 2010 saw the rise of the X10 family.
The Xperia U may well turn out to be the follow up to the Mini, the X8 and the X10 mini. It's likely that Sony will also release a keyboard equipped Android-based smartphone as well as a generic handset to replace the Neo.
