Alcatel will launch a new new flagship smartphone in the first half of 2012 called the One Touch 995 (or OT-955) and will come with a suggested retail price of around £150 according to a source close to the company.
We were not able to find out whether the price is for a PAYG model or for a SIM Free, unsubsidised and unbranded one; likewise, our contact was not able to confirm whether the One Touch 995 will be available on contracts at the main mobile network operators.
The OT-995 is similar in configuration to the Galaxy S Advance (otherwise known as the but costs almost half the price; the only difference is the onboard storage capacity but given that the price of microSD cards is falling fast, grabbing a 32GB one should cost you only £18.
It has a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255T processor, 512MB RAM, a five megapixel camera with autofocus and flash (plus a front facing VGA one), Wi-Fi, AGPS, a 1500mAh battery, a microUSB and HDMI port, a microSD card slot, 1GB onboard storage, DLNA compatibility, Bluetooth 3.0.
Alcatel will introduce a new user interface that will run atop Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Ice Cream Sandwich coming later in the year.
