While we are keeping our eyes on the latest news and rumours related to the third generation iPad, Apple is quietly inserting a new category in its App Store, Catalogs. There are already a few hundred apps, added to this new category.
Despite being refilled under a new tag, the apps have been in the App Store for a while, some for two years. Previously listed under other categories, such as Utility or Lifestyle, the apps now gathered in the Catalogs category are meant to be shopping tools or specialised encyclopaedias, in different areas of interest.
One of the apps that have been refilled in the new category, is Catalog Spree developed by Padopolis Inc.
Joaquin Ruiz, Padopolis CEO, asked by Mac Rumors what he thinks about the chance Apple has made in the App Store, suggested that this can be related to the iPad 3 media event.
"Adding an app category is not something that Apple does lightly and we believe Apple's decision reflects the importance of this use case in the Apple App Store ecosystem," said Joaquin Ruiz.
