When it comes to hotly anticipated new releases, users end up having to wait until it's launched on the company's official website - or in Sony Ericsson's case, eBay.
It's not everyday you come across a phone that has been made available way before its scheduled release date, but then again, seeing the Sony Ericsson Windows Phone protoype pop up on eBay isn't your usual daily sighting. Appearing under the codename 'Julie', the device entered the auction site much to the delight of Sony fans everywhere - and to the dismay of colleagues of the Japanese electronics manufacturer.
Whilst specs for the device were pretty vague, the details listed included a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor of about 1.4GHz, an 8.1 megapixel camera, 3G enabled, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and Wi-Fi.
However, it remains to be seen what exactly Sony has in mind with their newly acquired mobile division. Will the OS running on the PlayStation Vita be brought to smartphones and tablets? With the Windows Phone's stake in the market at just less than 2 per cent, it hardly seems worth it.
The listing has since been retracted from the online marketplace, but sadly, the damage has already been done. Despite Sony Ericsson's now defunct partnership, Sony will be looking to issue some pretty extreme damage control to ensure further events such as this won't occur anytime soon.
