The S3 could well be one of the first mainstream smartphones to come with a ceramic chassis according to Eldar Murtazin, a well known mobile blogger who made his fame out of exclusives.
A ceramic enclosure would indicate that the device will be light and scratchproof but also more likely to break if dropped because of its structure. Ceramic is also known for being notoriously difficult to recycle than other material and is more expensive as well.
It is likely however that Samsung has produced a composite material that uses ceramic as part of the solution rather than a pure ceramic one.
Two other properties of ceramic worth noting. It is not an obstacle to radio waves unlike a metal chassis and is an excellent heat and electrical insulator. Another handset, the newly released HTC One S also comes with a ceramic coating option
The device is set to be released at an invite only event in Amsterdam by Samsung on the 15th of March. It is rumoured to come with a quad core processor (either an Exynos or a Tegra 3), Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.8-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, 4G and more.
