Mobile security service LookOut has just published a troubling report about absent minded smartphone owners.
In America, is it estimated that the value of lost phones reaches approximately $30 billion every year. Unsurprisingly, the top locations for people to lose their mobile phones are coffee shops and bars with most mishaps occuring during the evening or late at night.
The report reveals that 67 per cent of the misplaced phones are found between 9pm and 2am. The LookOut report also reveals that the people from the City of Brotherly Love are the most forgetful when it comes to their gadgets.
"Philadelphia residents lose their phone two times more than New York City dwellers," says the report.
According to the study, the top places where users are most at risk for losing their phones in London include pubs, offices, restaurants and supermarkets. The LookOut study is based on information supplied by more than 15 million users who subscribed to interactive website Mobile Lost and Found.
Smartphone users should know that at least on iTunes as well as Google Play (formerly Android Marketplace) there are some very convenient apps to help track the lost phones, even allowing users to lock the devices or wipe them clean to protect their personal information.
