HTC Announces 5p Weekends : Rent a Movie on Watch for £0.05

HTC has announced the launch of its 5p Weekends which offers 50 films available to watch for only 5p via the Watch application on any HTC phones that come with Sense UI 3.0 or higher.

The promotion will be running every weekend and is restricted to the UK for now with no limits on the amount of movies you can view or download - although you cannot download movies over 3G which is a sensible thing to do.

The movies can be kept for 30 days and once you start to watch them, you will have 48 hours to finish watching. You can also add up to five devices to your HTC account and payments are accepted via debit/credit cards.

HTC has been quietly adding to its services either through acquisitions (like Dr Dre Beats audio technology or Safron Digital which is what powers ) or partnerships (with Dropbox) to add more differentiating factors to its handsets which face tough competition from the likes of Sony Mobile and Motorola.

The Taiwanese company has suffered in 2011 with sales of its smartphones and profits down by 70 per cent. HTC has an online page for those looking to create an HTC Watch account (opens in new tab) and the 5p offer comes after HTC offered films for 49p towards the end of the year.
