Samsung Confirms Galaxy S3 Will Get Quad Core Exynos

Samsung has confirmed that the Next Galaxy commonly known as the Samsung Galaxy S3 will get a quad core processor, called the Exynos 4 Quad, which will run at 1.4GHz.

The chip which was also known as the Exynos 4420, and packs four Cortex-A9 based processors, with ARM's Mali400 GPU, to deliver an all ARM-based system on chip solution.

It has been fabbed using a 32nm manufacturing process and Samsung says that it is twice as fast as its predecessor, and is 20 per cent more power efficient.

The Korean company also confirmed that the chip will have the same pin count as the previous generation which means that, manufacturers could in theory swap a dual core, for a quad core processo,r without having to worry about compatibility and thermals.

The chip is also expected to power the next generation of Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets that should be launched shortly as well. It will be the second quad core ARM-based processor to be launched after the Nvidia Tegra 3.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to be unveiled at an event in London next week, an event to which we have been invited. O2, Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse have already confirmed that they will be selling the device.
