Samsung Galaxy Tab Rival Debuts At £85

It only took a couple of years for a tablet that can rival the Samsung Galaxy Tab to emerge for less than £100. The Sumvision Cyclone Astro tablet is currently on preorder at Ebuyer for a penny under £85.

It packs a Cortex-A8-based processor clocked at 1.2GHz with a dual Mali-400 graphics, 1GB RAM (that's twice what is in the Galaxy Tab or the iPad 2) and 8GB onboard storage.

The screen is still a 7in capacitive model but with a resolution of only 800 x 480 pixels (the Galaxy Tab delivered 1,024 x 600 pixels) and the the Cyclone Astro comes with Ice Cream Sandwich by default, an Android upgrade that is unlikely to come to the original Galaxy Tab soon.

Other features include a 3200mAh battery, Wi-Fi, a microSD card slot, a mini HDMI port and a 0.3-megapixel webcam. There are an increasing number of sub-£100 tablets coming to the market with a capacitive screen.

The Ainovo Novo 7 Basic, the Eken T01 and the Archos Arnova 7 G2 are some of the ones currently available on the market. It is unlikely that the prices of these tablets will go further down, instead, manufacturers are likely to pack more features.
