Samsung has announced the release of its new Series 5 550P range of laptops with 15in and 17in screens; the top of the range model uses Intel's Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, the i7-3610QM, a four-core processor with 6MB L2 cache clocked at 2.3GHz and with a 45W TDP.
The company says that the processor used in the Series 5 550P will consume 20 per cent less power but deliver a 25 per cent improvement on performance and twice the 3D gaming performance (although we're not sure whether it refers to the shared Intel HD 4000 GPU).
The company aims for a high-end audience with a Blu-ray drive (on the 17in model only), a 2GB Nvidia Geforce GT650M (on all but one models), up to 2TB on-board storage, integrated JBL optimised speakers with a subwoofer as well as 8GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium.
The three available models all have a webcam, a 6-cell 5200mAh battery, Wi-Fi and a 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution (except for the top of the range 17.3in model which comes with a 1,600 x 900 pixels resolution). The laptops will go on sale in May in the UK.
Damian Cusick, General Manager, Computing, Samsung UK and Ireland, said "With its fully integrated multimedia features and lightweight slim design the Samsung Series 5 550P notebook offers an unsurpassed ‘look, listen and feel' experience that no other notebook will match".
