Advertised as a "free, all-in one global communicator", TU Me from Telefónica Digital has now been released for iPhone users. The Spanish company clearly wants to take on Skype and its WhatsApp.
Any iPhone owner can use TU Me, regardless of its carrier, explained Telefónica. "We've seen the growing popularity of communications apps on smartphones but we believe we've gone one better with TU Me using our knowledge and insights of how people use their devices", notes Stephen Shurrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Digital.
"TU Me puts all your communications needs into one place, for free, and is a great way for people to stay in touch with those close to them. It's also a testament to the innovation, speed and agility within Telefónica Digital."
Any interested user is directed to the dedicated website, to find out more details about the new app, or to the App Store to install TU Me. Android users will get their own version of the app sometime soon, promises the company.
The app lets the users not only enjoy free voice calls anywhere, but also the ability to send free text messages. They could also send photos and share locations with their friends. The move comes soon after Skype has updated its iOS apps, in an effort to appeal to iPhone and iPad users.
