Nokia TV has been launched, through an app in the Windows Phone Marketplace.
The app promises to bring TV content to Nokia Lumia mobile devices and is now available for worldwide download.
However, the only programmes featured on the Nokia app are from Finnish TV. So unless you speak Finnish, or enjoy watching foreign TV with subtitles, you may not want to download the app.
“With Nokia TV we are bringing existing services in Finland together in a convenient way. We’re making it easier for people to find and watch TV, while supporting broadcasters’ existing internet TV business models,” explained Mika Suomela, head of TV and video at Nokia.
“Finland is the ideal country in which to introduce this service due to its advanced mobile user base and great existing broadcaster catch-up TV services.”
Nokia hasn't ruled out making programmes from other countries, and in other languages, available on its TV app. The answer given from Nokia regarding when Nokia TV will be opened up to other countries was 'at a later stage'.
The Nokia TV app will link into local television channels and will stream over both Wi-Fi and data connections. Users will also be able to download programmes to their device for offline viewing.
