The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is essentially a streamlined version of the HTC Desire HD which was launched four months later.
Like the latter, it comes with a Qualcomm MSM8255 processor clocked at 1GHz and has an eight megapixel camera with LED flash and HD recording capabilities but no front facing camera. Sony Ericsson (now Sony Mobile) used an Exmor R sensor technology from Sony's camera range
Other features include a 1500mAh batter, 4.2in 854 x 480 pixels capacitive display with mobile BRAVIA engine, 512MB RAM, an 8GB microSD card, HDMI out, 1GB onboard storage and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (an ICS update is already available).
The handset - which is only 9mm thick and weighs 117g - is available from Talkmobile for only £24 per month on a one year contract with no upfront fee; that's a total cost of ownership of only £288.
The contract includes 200 minutes, 200 texts and 1GB data allowance. Given that the phone costs around the same on SIM Free/PAYG, it is worth considering TalkMobile's offer even if it is locked.
