Research has found that consumers find modern printers too complicated and rarely use the range of functions available.
According to a study carried out by print management company, Dynamic Workflow Solutions, 20 per cent said that they only use their home printer to print in black and white.
Just two per cent said they use the function to print via email and only five per cent use their mobiles or tablets to send items to print.
The results were consistent throughout the age ranges asked - though one anomaly was the sending of faxes through their printer.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, the five per cent that responded that they do this are in the over-55 demographic.
The findings reveal a rather printer-shy public, and it is clear many home users are not embracing the wave of technology being included with many new printers.
