French airport, Toulouse-Blagnac, is trialling a new NFC system that allows passengers to check-in and check departure times with their mobile phones.
Using their NFC enabled devices, passengers will be able to validate flight tickets, make purchases and receive information about departure gates and times.
"With NFC technology, the mobile phone simplifies the passenger’s journey through the airport," explained Jean-Michel Vernhes, CEO of Toulouse-Blagnac airport.
"It now becomes a personalized tool displaying the right information at the right time. It also enables passengers to better manage their journey, so they can choose how they spend their time at the airport. For T-B airport, the approach is to give to flyers access to leading-edge technologies that enhance and facilitate their experience at the airport in providing new Premium services."
The project, in partnership with RIM, Orange and SITA, uses BlackBerry NFC smartphones to act as a security path through the airport.
Passengers can access the P1 car park, using the parking lot information on their smartphones. They will then be granted instant access into Departures via the Premium Access Zone. Throughout the airport users will be updated with any relevant information concerning their flight.
