GAME has announced that GAMEfest 2012 will not be going ahead as initially planned, but has added the caveat that it may return in 2013.
GAMEfest debuted for the first time in 2011 and was a pretty impressive show, letting gamers try out some of the upcoming games - though the queues were monstrous. It even threw a bit of a spanner in EuroGamer's works, since it launched just a few weeks before EuroGamer Expo and therefore had many of the same games on display.
However this year, due to financial issues that should be immediately obvious at this point, GAMEFest will not be occurring. It would probably have been a bit insulting for the couple thousand employees that lost their jobs to hold a show that cost millions to set up.
"I'm afraid GAMEfest won't be happening this year but we do have some cool things in the works," the company said via the official Twitter account, before adding: "by the way - this doesn't mean it won't happen next year. *wink*"
E3 is the next big show, but the absence of GAMEFest leaves late summer in the UK to Eurogamer. See you guys there.
