An Ebay retailer, Compsol, is selling a desktop computer for £199 (with an additional £10 delivery). What makes that deal interesting is the fact that that computer - which is brand new and comes with one year warranty - comes with some spectacular specification.
There's a whopping 8GB RAM (expandable to 16GB) and a 1TB hard disk drive (Seagate or HGST) and the system is powered by a Pentium Dual Core G630 which is clocked at 2.7GHz and is based on Intel's 2nd generation Core architecture, Sandy Bridge.
Other features include Intel's HD Graphics 2000, an Asrock H61M motherboard with DVI and VGA outputs, 5.1 audio, a DVD writer, a Black MicroATX case with a 450W PSU, six USB 2.0 ports, four SATA ports and GbE LAN.
Stoke-based Compsol says that the systems have been tested prior to shipment and do not come with an operating system or a monitor. There is however a keyboard and mouse thrown in.
It is mind-blowing to reminisce on the amount of performance, storage space and system memory available nowadays. Only a decade ago, a dual processor with such a vast amount of memory and storage space would have cost north of £10,000 and yet provide with a fraction of the performance.
