Nokia City Lens - Hands-On Video Walkthrough

At a recent Nokia press event, ITProPortal caught on video a new application coming to the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone handsets - City Lens.

This is an augmented reality app that highlights local attractions around you, utilising the camera, internet connection and GPS. A Lumia phone can then be turned on its back, showing the discovered locations in a street-map format - instead of the AR version - for easily locating these places..

Local attractions that can be highlighted in the AR app are the likes of landmarks, restaurants, hotels, shops and public transport stations. From these you can simply tap to read reviews, descriptions and destination information

Nokia City Lens is currently only in beta, but it is officially being released soon. For now, it can be obtained to use from the Nokia Beta Labs, for all the Lumia mobile phones.

Check out the video below, where a product spokesperson from the Finnish company walks ITPP through the app from a hotel roof garden, overlooking Trafalgar square in London.
