Mobiles.co.uk, which is part of Carphone Warehouse, has dropped the price of its cheapest Apple iPhone 4S to a mere £30 per month plus a £30 cashback (effectively one month free) which reduces the price of the contract to £28.75 per month on a two year contract or a total cost of ownership of £696.
The deal is part of Three's iPhone Ultimate Internet 100 which offers 100 minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited/all you can eat data. Note that the latter doesn't include unlimited tethering as on the One Plan. Given that the 16GB phone costs £499 on SIM Free, it means that the cost of the contract spread over two years is around £8.
The iPhone 4S is due an upgrade very soon but is still a very capable handset. It comes with a dual core processor, the A5, with 512MB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a 3.5in screen with 960 x 540 pixels resolution, Wi-Fi, an 8-megapixel camera, a front facing one, iOS 5.1.1 and much more.
Perhaps its most formidable opponent at the moment is the Samsung Galaxy S3 which outclasses it in almost every possible way (except perhaps when it comes to onboard capacity and camera) and is available on a cheaper contract.
