Sony is not known for being an entry level player but its Xperia U has just managed to grab our interest with some keen pricing. At £187.49 (with a £7.50 simplicity topup that gives unlimited texts for a month), the phone is one of the cheapest dual core smartphones on the market.
It comes with a dual core STEricsson U8500 Cortex-A9-based processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB RAM, exchangeable caps, a 3.5in display that uses Sony's own Reality technology and has 854 x 480 pixels resolution, a 5-megapixel camera and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich likely to happen soon).
The phone was only released four months ago in Barcelona and inherits a few features from its bigger brother the Xperia S. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, a front facing camera and that signature white/translucent bar at the bottom of the phone.
The phone is available exclusively from O2 at that price and is therefore locked to the network. You should be able to get it to run on Tesco Mobile and Giffgaff as well.
