New Philips smart TV app aims to enhance existing Euro 2012, London Olympics coverage

Consumer electronics behemoth Philips has launched a new app to give its viewers instant access to a range of in-depth information surrounding the summer's marquee sporting events.

Offered through the company's dedicated visual digital entertainment arm, TP Vision, the SMART TV App is now available free of charge on all Philips smart TVs, and seeks to supplement live coverage of both Euro 2012 and the London 2012 Olympic games.

Focusing first on the prestigious football tournament jointly hosted by Poland and the Ukraine, the app will bring football fans the latest news, including tables, fixtures, and results, in addition to providing statistics and gossip, such as stadium and host city related trivia.

The app will be complemented by a multiple-choice Euro Football quiz enabling sport-mad audiences to test their knowledge about the championship and the teams and players involved.

Once the final whistle has been blown in Kiev on 1 July and a champion has been crowned, SMART TV will automatically switch to detailed coverage of the Olympics and feature medal tables, infographics, and a full list of events.

Most of the information being presented on the app will, of course, be available on a variety of platforms, though armchair pundits using Philips smart TV products may find it offers them the greatest ease and speed of access.
