If you are on the market for a new bog standard laptop, the Toshiba Satellite C855-10Z could have its place on your shortlist; at £399.99 at Amazon, it is the cheapest Intel Core i5 laptop we've found on the market at the time of writing.
It features a second generation, Sandy-bridge-based Intel Core i5-2450 clocked at 2.5GHz with Turbo Boost to 3.1GHz, 4GB of RAM, a massive 500GB hard disk drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel HD Graphics 3000, three USB ports (including one USB 3.0 that can charge devices when off), Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, a card reader, SRS Premium Sound HD, a 1-megapixel camera and a weight of 3.1Kg.
The laptop also has a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixels TruBrite display with LED backlight, a DVD writer, a full-size tiled keyboard with numeric keypad, a touchpad that can recognise up to six different finger gestures, a crossline pattern to the lid and a textured palm-rest which might not be everyone's favourite.
As expected, it comes with a number of preinstalled applications (bloatware) that can be easily disabled. The warranty from Toshiba is a standard 12-months pick-up and return one.
