Is Samsung Galaxy S3 having preemptive cuts ahead of iPhone 5 launch?

Is Samsung looking to capture as much of the smartphone market before the launch of the iPhone 5 by cutting the price of the S3? We're inclined to believe after we noticed that some vendors on Amazon cut the price of the Galaxy S3 to less than £440.The phone carries a suggested retail price of £500.

Stocks of the handset - in white only - at this price have been sold out and the next cheapest cost around £460.We reviewed the phone earlier this month and found much to love from it.

The phone comes with a quad core processor, designed and built by Samsung, 1GB of RAM, a 4.8in 1,280 x 720 pixels display, a pebble like design (no conspicuous edges), 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, an 8-megapixel camera plus a 2-megapixel front facing one and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It is also likely that Samsung is aiming to get more Galaxy S3 smartphones out of the door by encouraging mobile phone operators to sell more contract phones.

The S3 can be had from as ltitle as £26 per month on a pay monthly contract from T-Mobile. Latest rumours suggest that the iPhone 5 will be launched in September - only seven weeks or so from now.
