Ainol's Samsung Galaxy Tab rival drops to £95

The arrival of the Google Nexus 7 seems to have had a devastating effect on the competition, depressing prices even more and squeezing margins for all existing players. Amazon is now selling the Ainol NOVO7 ELF II tablet for £94.99 with free delivery. The device features a 7in 1,024 x 600 capacitive display, just like the first generation Samsung Galaxy Tab.

However, Samsung's original Android slate, it has a dual-core Cortex A9 processor (the AmLogic's 8726-M6/MX), which is clocked at 1.2GHz and has a Mali-400 MP2 GPU running at 400MHZ. That's far superior to the single-core CPU in the Galaxy Tab. Other features include Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, metal in ear style earphones, Google Play, HDMI, a front facing 2-megapixel camera, a 4000mAh battery, 8GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, 1GB of RAM and a mini-USB port.

Sadly, there's no Bluetooth or GPS. That said, given that the nearest comparable tablet costs more than £40 extra, the NOVO7 Elf II deserves a chance.
