Archos 10.1in tablet priced at £149

Carphone Warehouse has quietly dropped the price of the Archos 101 G9 from £189 to £149. Oddly, the device is not part of the current tablet clearance sales but is well worth the money.

It comes with a 10.1in, 1,280 x 800 resolution capacitive display, a similar size and resolution as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. It runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb but will get an official update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon, although Jelly Bean is likely to be a no-no.

There's also a dual-core TI OMAP4460 processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage with a microSD card slot and a full size USB port, a front facing 720p camera, HDMI out, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, a kickstand, and up to 10 hours battery life.

The tablet is a tad heavy though, at 649g and a bit thick, at 12.6mm. Note that you can convert the tablet to 3G by plugging in an Archos 3G dongle.
