Following its disastrous May IPO, is Facebook on the brink of a massive brain drain? That's the fear following yesterday's shock news that three key players are set to leave the company.
Ethan Beard, director of platform partnerships, kicked off the string of graceful resignations, announcing that he will shortly part ways with the social networking giant - posting the news to his Facebook page, of course.
"It is with mixed emotions that I'm letting you all know that I've decided to leave Facebook to seek my next adventure. For the past 4+ years I've had the privilege of working with some of the most brilliant people on one of the most impactful products the world has ever seen. I'm exceptionally proud of the team we've built and the work we've done," he wrote on his Timeline.
Beard gave no hint at potential successors to his position, but one person it certainly won't be is platform marketing director Katie Mitic, who revealed her departure from the Internet behemoth shortly after her colleague. Mitic revealed that the "next entrepreneurial adventure" in her career will be to get stuck in to the mobile startup she founded in nearby Palo Alto, CA.
The final high-level staffing blow came when Jonathan Matus, a mobile platform marketing manager, revealed that he too would be riding off into the sunset in order to - wait for it - pursue "a new adventure."
Yesterday's executive resignation festival follows earlier high-profile departures from Facebook, namely those of former-CTO Bret Taylor, who walked away in June to form his own start-up, and old PR director Barry Schnitt, who took a new top communications job at social media rival Pinterest back in May.
Wednesday's events will hardly help the perception of Facebook and its divisive founder Mark Zuckerberg, adding to the bad publicity it suffered after iMeem's co-founder accused it of being no better than a playground bully.
