Samsung cuts price of Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0 to compete with Google Nexus 7

Samsung is giving £30 cash-back on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which is essentially a smaller version of the Galaxy Tab and the follow up of the popular Galaxy Tab – only without the telephony capabilities.

The device is available from Ebuyer for only £193.99, which means that the total price after cash-back should be £164. Note that claims have to be filed by the 30th of August.

The tablet comes with a dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor clocked at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, with 8GB on-board storage, a 7in 1,024 x 600 capacitive display, a VGA front facing camera, a 4000mAh battery, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It does lack the quad-core processor and the HD display that comes with the Nexus 7, but the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has a few additional features. These include a second rear 3-megapixel camera, a microSD card slot (add another 32GB for around £10) as well as a host of tools exclusive to Samsung; such as the Video Hub, Chat On, Music Hub and Readers Hub.

Samsung will have a hard time competing against the Google Nexus 7, given that various teardowns have shown that Google has trimmed the margins on the tablet to a bare minimum.
