Sky has rolled out some pretty impressive updates to its iPad app, giving more power to the tablet-owners' fingertips than ever before.
The company announced the upgrades yesterday, which allow the user to pause, play and rewind live TV from their screens if they have a Sky+ HD box. The remote capabilities of the iPad are enhanced by its ability to browse and edit the user’s Sky+ planner without interrupting their TV viewing. Within a redesigned TV guide, users can scroll through schedules for the next seven days and select which episodes and series they wish to record.
Sky’s Luke Bradley-Jones, Brand Director of TV Products, describes the app updates as “taking a major step forward in giving Sky customers even more control over their TV viewing experience,” enabling users to “transform their iPad into a remote control.”
As our handheld devices become increasingly multi-purpose and integrated with TVs, Sky’s improvements to its iPad app seem timely. You cast your eye over the new features in the video below.
But Bradley-Jones is already promising more from the app in the near future. “Later this summer, for instance, we’ll also be integrating zeebox second screen functionality in to the app. This will allow Sky customers to follow online reaction to their favourite shows directly through the app via integrated twitter feeds, plus enjoy bonus content specifically created around their favourite Sky shows.”
In a busy summer of mobile TV expansion, Sky has also launched its Now TV service. The app allows users to download programmes and films on pay-as-you-go and monthly subscription deals.
